Imagine this:

You wake up in the morning only to realize your mattress is damp. ‘How come?’ you wonder.

And then it hits you, ‘Oh, of course!’

The roof has been leaking.

Well…can’t exactly call it a roof; it’s the fabric of your tent.

You look at your sleeping children, and then shift your gaze towards the roof, hoping it holds up a little while longer.

Suddenly, you feel a cold wind on your bare feet. ‘Now where’s that coming fr…Ah! Of course! The gap between the bottom of the tent and the groundsheet…’

Time to start a fire before the kids wake up! ‘But er, what do I burn?’

The now partially dry mattress is all you’ve got. It would have to do.

This is the sad reality of our brothers and sisters in Syria who—in the wake of the recent earthquakes—have nowhere left to go to.

Crisis Within A Crisis

When disaster strikes, it doesn’t just destroy buildings.

It also claims the safety, security and comfort of what we call a home.

9 out of 10 people in Northwest Syria who had already been displaced at least once by the conflict, found themselves displaced again (!) by the February quakes.

Housing has become extremely difficult to find. And while the real estate market’s blazed a fierce trail for a decade now, the same cannot be said for incomes; families are struggling to pay rents they cannot afford. This has forced people to sleep on floors of busted and broken mosques, schools and sports centers.

If they’re lucky, they get to live in cramped tents made of tarpaulin and cotton sheets, and makeshift shelters. However, this leaves them vulnerable to extreme cold and floods during winters, and prone to a sunstroke from direct sunlight hitting their tents during summers.

Such accommodation also lacks basic facilities such as a bathing and cooking set-up.

After all, these are only temporary shelters; they aren’t homes.

Which is precisely why…

…they need your help urgently!

The hottest season of the year in Syria spans the months of June to August where temperatures can reach unbearable highs of over 40 degrees.

How are the children and the elderly supposed to withstand such extreme temperatures in their nylon tents without so much as a fan (since there’s no access to electricity)?

4 out of 10 patients that a clinic in the city of Atma receives are those suffering with diseases caused by high temperatures.

Our brothers and sisters in Syria feel suffocated…they feel as though they are sitting in an oven.

Is there any excuse for us to walk away today without contributing a tiny fraction of our earnings to help ease their suffering?

HOPE Village – You Built This!

We, at Bonyan, believe that every child and every family deserves a safe and secure place to call home. In pursuit of this vision, our work is dedicated to making it a reality for those in need.

Our proudest achievement to date has been the construction of the Al-Kafra (HOPE) Village which was designed to meet the needs of families who had been displaced by war.

Thanks to kind donations from people like you, we managed to provide a safe, comfortable and sustainable housing environment for them to rebuild their lives.

Investing in quality construction materials and expertise is significant in disaster-prone Syria. Keeping this in mind, we used top-grade construction materials under the guidance of skilled engineers, and Alhumdulillah, HOPE Village was able to withstand the recent catastrophic earthquakes.

Looking into the future, we hope to continue to provide more permanent solutions to Syria’s uninhabitable camps.

We have a long way to go, but we’re sure that with your help we can build stronger foundations, brighter futures, and healthier families.

It’ll only cost a few dollars, but will make an immeasurable difference.

Have you ever noticed that everytime you help someone, you feel a kind of happiness and satisfaction that’s difficult to put a name to?

Even science agrees! According to studies the act of helping others fulfill their needs boosts happiness, health and sense of well-being.

And this is why The Quran and our beloved Messenger SAW have also highly emphasized upon the rewards of helping our brothers and sisters in need.

“And donate from what We have provided for you before death comes to one of you, and you cry, “My Lord! If only You delayed me for a short while, I would give in charity and be one of the righteous.”

(Surah Al Munafiqun, 63:9-11)

“Verily, the believers are like bricks of a building, each part strengthening the other.” Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ)

Help us strengthen and empower Syrian families today.
