Help us provide more than 14,400 loaves of fresh bread daily to Yemeni families in need of urgent food.

We Need to Act Now!

After 6 years of ongoing conflict, economic turmoil, natural disasters, and now a global shutdown – families in Yemen have not been able to catch a break!

“Key Yemeni household staples have seen a more than doubling of prices, including a 133% price rise in wheat flour, 96% price rise in vegetable oil, and a 164% price rise in rice from February 2016 to October 2020.” (International Rescue Committee, 2021)

More than 20.7 million people are estimated to be in need of some sort of humanitarian aid in 2021 -16 million of whom are in urgent need of life-saving food. (Yemen Humanitarian Country Team, 2021)

NEVER in the history of the world has there been a worse humanitarian crisis than the one happening right now in Yemen.

Yemen relies on imports for more than 90% of its food and fuel needs (UNOCHA, 2021). And now, due to the current global shutdown, Yemen’s economy has taken yet another blow due to external conflicts, such as the fuel crisis, and the prices of bare necessities have increased even further!

According to the U.N, the needs of those afflicted will only get worse if the war goes on any longer -” causing civilian casualties, internal displacement and damage to critical infrastructure, including hospitals, schools, main supply routes and economic markets” (2021).

All of these factors have put one of the most vulnerable populations in the world, in dire need of your help.

According to Save the Children (2021), “Almost 400,000 children under five are suffering from Severe Acute Malnutrition and at heightened risk of death”

All of this, paired with the fact that global funding for Yemen has reduced by more than 40% in 2021 has made it more important than ever for us to help out our brothers and sisters in Yemen today.

But We’re Halfway Across the World, What Can We Do?

No matter what we do, we cannot stop the fighting and the reasons that they are starving in the first place.

We can feed them, though. And we don’t have to just drop off bags of rice and lentils which they can’t make use of without fuel and utensils.

In August of 2018, we opened our doors to the very first Mercy Bakery -a FREE public bakery where EVERY Yemeni regardless of age, gender, ethnicity/race, and religion can get access to fresh bread.

In the first location of Sana’a, Yemen, people flocked to the location and came away with bread for their families. The work of this first bakery quickly spread with the help of social media.

Supporters from all corners of the world came together to help us continue providing fresh food to the people of Yemen.

Thanks to their overwhelming support, and by God’s grace, Mercy Bakery’s reach quickly grew to 5 locations currently running across Yemen (in Sana’a, Taiz, Ibb, and Hodeidah). God willing, Mercy Bakery is expected to open 4 more locations -totaling 9 free public bakeries across the country.

At our current capacity, Mercy Bakery is able to provide 14,400 loaves of bread daily through its current locations and serve more than 223,200 direct & indirect beneficiaries per month.

But that’s not all!

Each new Mercy Bakery location is built with an added Mercy Kitchen.
Now families can also get fresh, warm, and nutritious ready-to-eat meals with their bread -consisting of rice, meat, and vegetables, all for FREE.

Consider how much of a delight it is for a mother, who is already struggling to make ends meet, to not have to cook and instead enjoy a nice warm meal for herself and for her hungry kids.

This is the difference between dry goods packets and fresh-cooked food. A starving mother may have just enough energy to hold her child, let alone get up and cook for him.

This is why we wanted to go a step further, to actually prepare the food. We know the people and we know the situation. The workers that run our locations are orphans from Yemen, intimately aware of the hard life that their people face.
It is a labor of love and we don’t wanna stop doing it.

But there is so much more to do.

We not only want to stop this famine in Yemen, but we envision a world where every struggling community has a free public bakery with access to fresh-baked bread.

We cannot do this without your du’as and donations. We have our volunteers, and we have the resources on the ground.

We need your help to continue our work and to raise awareness and spread it across Yemen. And ultimately the rest of the world!

For just $50 today, you can help us provide 1,250 pieces of bread -enough to feed the next 179 families that rely on Mercy Bakery for their next meal.

Be the Answer to Someone’s Prayers

Your generosity today will help free families from hunger so they can dedicate their time and energy to secure a brighter future for themselves.

With 400,000 children on the brink of starvation, your support today very well could be the difference between life and death for them. It could also be the means for your entry to Jannah

Allah says in the Qur’an:

“ وَمَنْ أَحْيَاهَا فَكَأَنَّمَآ أَحْيَا ٱلنَّاسَ جَمِيعًۭا ۚ “
“…whoever saves a life, it will be as if they saved all of humanity.” (Qur’an, 5:32)

Not only this, but the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ himself has asked of you:

“ اعْبُدُوا الرَّحْمَنَ وَأَطْعِمُوا الطَّعَامَ وَأَفْشُوا السَّلاَمَ تَدْخُلُوا الْجَنَّةَ بِسَلاَمٍ”
“(All of you) worship the All-Merciful, feed (people) food, spread the (greeting of) Salam (peace), and you shall enter Paradise in peace.” (Jami` at-Tirmidhi, 1855)

Will you fulfill this request from our Prophet ﷺ ?

Dr. Debbie Almontaser
(American school teacher and community activist)

What Our Supporters Are Saying…

“Zakat is a responsibility upon every Muslim. And I’m afraid of accounting for what I have on the day of Judgement. There is always the issue of authenticity that plagues me when I’m donating. I don’t know if my zakat is reaching those that need it but having a lecturer like Omar Suleiman endorse this raises my level of trust in this charitable establishment.” — Sarah K

“It’s extremely difficult to see people with no food and be able to eat ourselves. My father was extremely generous and would have supported this cause. I am donating on his behalf.” — Sehrish C

“I cannot imagine being hungry for too long, or my children going without food. I am blessed by Allah SWT. I heard Sh Omar Suleman’s appeal and I fear Allah SWT’s anger or disappointment with me. May Allah SWT help you and our stay firm in our efforts to help those less blessed than us. Ameen” — Amna F

“I’m a Muslim and it’s my duty, so sad, I write this while tears are flowing down my cheeks, so sad what is happening to our beloved ummah, ya hayyu yaqatoum.” —Mohammed A

“Love…. the word that is running this universe….. if we don’t help each other where is this love…I have done this only out of love…. Even Allah Jesus and Narayan say the same thing… love is above everything in the universe..” — Duryodha S

“I can’t see or hear of people starving and sitting and doing nothing. This is true for the sake of Allah SWT because all I have is because of him and how can I not give to his beautiful creation that is in need from what Allah has given to me. Shame on the people inflicting these innocent people with all this starvation….” — Saitha B

“I’m a Muslim from Pakistan and I don’t want to see hungry people on our planet! Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him told us to feed the needy! And Allah SWT also orders us to feed the poor if we have the capability! That’s why I wanted to donate! And thank you for doing this. Those who can not go to these areas can help these people through your platform (thank you) may God bless you all.” — Zain M

“Your video was absolutely heartfelt. It made me think of how ungrateful I am. These kids were smiling just by holding half a lord of bread. I am so ungrateful to the point where I cannot stand my food being cold/hot or not meeting my needs. Inshallah may Allah help all of us be more appreciative to these things in life.” — Hafsa M

“I got here to Donate in the name of Allah. It’s honestly astonishing that I’m here because Allah ordered me to give to the poor because I seek his mercy however at the same time Allah guided me here because others seek mercy from the hunger that they feel and I realized Allah is truly merciful to all his creation no matter what the condition is. I decided to give what I have from my student loan because I was blessed enough by him to be here and one of the people who can hopefully have a chance to get a job to feed myself and Allah has granted me with something that’s such a blessing and I looked back at what he has given me and I couldn’t help but give back, the mercy of Allah is not mine alone and for that I’m grateful.” — Danya M
